Excess Reduction Cover - Apex Car Rentals Australia & New Zealand

When you hire a car from Apex Car Rentals Australia or New Zealand, the rental vehicle has Standard Motor Vehicle Insurance, but you may be liable for any excess payment due. To limit your risk exposure, there are three options offered for excess liability coverage. The following is a guide to the different excess options available.

Basic Cover

All cars hired by Apex Car Rentals include Standard Motor Vehicle Insurance for no extra charge. Standard Motor Vehicle Insurance carries a variable excess liability (deductible) depending on the class of vehicle.

This means that in the unfortunate event that the rental vehicle is involved in an accident or is damaged, you are liable for the associated excess value to cover any damage costs.

PLEASE NOTE: As the renter, you are liable for the excess regardless of whether you are 'at fault' or not.

After the vehicle has been repaired and the costs are finalised, Apex will refund the difference between the total cost and the excess amount charged, if applicable. The excess value is the maximum amount you will be charged.

Limited Cover

As mentioned above, all cars hired by Apex Car Rentals include Standard Motor Vehicle Insurance for no extra charge. However, you can choose to reduce your excess liability by purchasing Excess Reduction Cover.

To reduce your excess liability, simply select the Limited Excess Reduction Cover option on the ‘Extras’ step when making your reservation.

    New Zealand
  • If you purchase Limited Excess Reduction Cover, it reduces your excess liability to $500.

    Australia
  • If you purchase Limited Excess Reduction Cover, it reduces your excess liability to $750.

PLEASE NOTE: As the renter, you are liable for the excess regardless of whether you are 'at fault' or not.

After the vehicle has been repaired and the costs are finalised, Apex will refund the difference between the total cost and the excess amount charged, if applicable. The excess is the maximum amount you will be charged.

Maximum Cover

Our Maximum Excess Coverage option gives you the same Standard Motor Vehicle Insurance, but you can travel with peace of mind knowing that in the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle you are fully covered. Maximum Excess Cover means zero liability.

To reduce your excess liability to zero, simply select the Maximum Cover Excess Reduction option on the ‘Extras’ step when making your reservation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Vehicle groups may have different excess levels and you may not be able to reduce the excess to zero on all vehicle classes.

By selecting the ‘Maximum Excess Cover’ option, you reduce your maximum excess liability to zero.

We strongly recommend all renters take out Maximum Cover Excess Reduction coverage for peace of mind motoring.
